WhatsApp Testing Alerts for New Channel Subscriptions
Meta launched the WhatsApp Channels feature in India and other countries last week. The feature allows you to send one-way broadcasts, including text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls. Now, WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow channel creators to get information about the status of their channels, especially when they don’t work in a specific country.
WhatsApp is reportedly doing this to comply with local laws in some places that may not allow certain things to be shared.
Who is this feature available to?
WABetaInfo notes that this feature is available to some beta testers after installing the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.20.9 update from the Google Play Store. After this update, WhatsApp will notify the channel creator that their channel is restricted in a specific country. This feature will roll out to more users in the coming days.
“These notifications are intended to keep channel creators informed of the status of their channels in certain countries where they may be restricted due to legal requirements,” WABetaInfo said. It added: “This proactive approach demonstrates that WhatsApp is dedicated to complying with local laws and protecting human rights while providing its users with a secure and private platform.”
How to check if you have this feature?
There is currently no way to determine if this feature is available to you unless you are watching a channel that is not available in your country. Additionally, WABetaInfo says that they cannot confirm such channels at this time, but the publication notes that these channel alerts are already available to content creators.
