DxO Mark Gives Google Pixel 8 Pro Highest Rating for Smartphone Display
It’s been about two weeks since the Google Pixel 8 series was launched in India, and since then a number of tests and reviews have been published to tell us how the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro perform in the real world and whether they’re a big upgrade. Over the Pixel 7 series. Now, DxO Mark — typically known for its in-depth smartphone camera testing — has rated the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8’s displays as the best smartphone displays.
The Pixel 8 models score 154 points, putting them ahead of phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Pixel Fold and even the latest iPhone 15 Pro series. DxOMark calls the Pixel 8 Pro the “most readable product” to date in its database, even in bright sunlight.
In particular, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have new screens – Google now calls them Actua and Super Actua. The Pixel 8 has a 6.2-inch Actua OLED panel that supports a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Pixel 8 Pro has a 6.7-inch Super Actua OLED panel with the same 120Hz refresh rate, but also has LTPO- technology that allows it to switch between 1 and 120 Hz. Only the Pixel 8 Pro gets two QHD+ screens, and the Pixel 8 sticks to an FHD+ panel. Both panels also have high peak brightness – the Pixel 8 supports 2000 nits and the Pixel 8 Pro gets 2400 nits.
In particular, the Pixel 8 Pro is brighter than the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (1750 nits) and the new iPhone 15 Pro (2000 nits). For contrast, the last generation Pixel 7 Pro has a screen with a peak brightness of 1500 nits.
DxO Mark notes that it was able to measure the Pixel 8 Pro’s peak brightness at 2,100 nits when displaying a photo in sunlight. The publication also notes that comparing it to the iPhone 15 Pro produced interesting results. It found that the iPhone 15 Pro Max can achieve “comparable brightness” with the Pixel 8 Pro when viewing dark content, but the iPhone “loses nearly 50% of its brightness when displaying a web page, while the iPhone only loses 20% of its brightness” on the Google device.
DxO Mark also praised the Pixel 8 Pro for its accurate color reproduction, noting that “despite a slight yellow-green outdoors, the Pixel’s color reproduction was better than both competitors.”
The Google Pixel 8 series is now available in India, starting at Rs 76,999 for the Pixel 8 and Rs 1,06,999 for the Pixel 8 Pro.
