Find out what the new WhatsApp calling security update has to offer
WhatsApp has been actively working to improve user privacy by regularly releasing updates. The latest security measure introduced in the beta versions for Android and iOS is called “Protect IP address in calls.” To learn more about this new security update, click here.
Protect your IP address during calls
This feature adds an extra layer of security when using WhatsApp calling features. The primary goal is to prevent malicious actors from obtaining users’ locations and eavesdropping on their calls.
This new feature was first discovered by WABetaInfo, a source known for revealing upcoming updates and features of WhatsApp. The feature is currently available in the latest WhatsApp beta versions for Android and iOS, where it routes calls through WhatsApp servers to protect users’ IP addresses.

How to enable?
To enable this added protection, users can use a new switch in the Advanced section of the Privacy settings. WhatsApp assures users that when this feature is enabled, all calls are protected with end-to-end encryption. This means that even WhatsApp itself cannot access the content of users’ conversations.
While this feature undoubtedly improves privacy, WhatsApp acknowledges that it may have a small impact on call quality due to the encryption and routing processes involved in passing calls through its servers.
For now, this toggle may only be visible to certain users using the beta version of the app. However, WhatsApp plans to make it available to all users in the future, although the exact date of the release of the stable version has not been confirmed.
This change is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to improve user privacy and security.
The “Protect IP address on calls” feature is especially important to protect users’ privacy, especially when communicating with unknown contacts, as it significantly reduces the chances of someone tracking their IP address and location.
For now, the feature is available to some beta testers who have installed the latest WhatsApp beta versions for Android and iOS, but it is expected to roll out to more users in the coming weeks. WhatsApp users can expect improved privacy while making calls thanks to the privacy settings of this new app.
The messaging platform has introduced several other features in recent months, such as WhatsApp channels, which allow users to follow their favorite influencers and celebrities.
