NASA unveils breathtaking image of Jupiter taken by Hubble Space Telescope

Despite its age and outdated technology, the Hubble Space Telescope continues to provide valuable contributions, even after being succeeded by the James Webb Space Telescope. Recently, the Hubble Telescope has gifted humanity with a remarkable image of Jupiter, showcasing its unwavering determination. By utilizing its ultraviolet-observing capabilities, astronomers can now examine the short, high-energy wavelengths of light that are invisible to the naked eye. NASA has released this stunning image of Jupiter to the public.

Ultraviolet image of Jupiter

The image of Jupiter recently released by NASA is captured in a color combination of ultraviolet wavelengths in a color combination of ultraviolet wavelengths. According to a recent NASA blog post, this image was released to celebrate Jupiter reaching opposition. This phenomenon occurs when the planet and the sun are on opposite sides of the sky. This phenomenal image of Jupiter also shows a storm known as the “Great Red Spot”. This storm appears red to the naked eye, but in this image taken, it appears darker. This phenomenon may have occurred because the cloud particles aloft absorb light at these wavelengths.

The data used to create this mesmerizing ultraviolet image was collected as part of the Hubble project to study Jupiter’s superstorm system, NASA explains. The color of the picture is wrong because the human eye cannot detect ultraviolet light. For this reason, the colors visible in the ultraviolet spectrum were assigned to the image of Jupiter. Each photo was taken with a different ultraviolet filter. The colors used in each filter were blue: F225W, green: F275W and red: F343N.

Hubble Space Telescope

NASA’s Hubble Telescope has more than 1.5 million observations and more than 20,000 articles on published findings. Hubble is one of NASA’s most significant science projects. Not only has this telescope studied the impact of comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 on Jupiter, but it has also detected storms on the planet – a truly remarkable invention.
