iOS 17.2 Enables Spatial Video Recording on iPhone 15 Pro
iOS 17.2 is finally out, and with it Apple has brought the ability to record spatial videos to the latest iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max phones. These Spatial videos are slated to be played on Vision Pro headsets when they’re released next year.
How to capture spatial video on iPhone 15 Pro?
It should be noted that spatial video capture is not enabled by default on the iPhone 15 Pro; to do this you need to go to Settings > Camera > Formats and then find Spatial Video for Apple Vision Pro and turn it on.
Once you’ve done this, you can go to the camera app, turn your phone to landscape, open video mode, and then tap the status video icon in the lower left corner. That’s it! The iPhone 15 Pro should be able to record spatial videos now.
It should be noted that these videos are shot in 1080p at 30 fps and they use both wide and ultra wide sensor simultaneously to record these videos. They are saved as a single file.
How to watch status videos?
When you take a status video, you can watch it on any iPhone or device like a Mac as a regular 2D video. However, a real use case is only possible with the Vision Pro headset after its release. Apple has already made the feature available to users so they can have status video memories ready to go when they get their hands on the headphones.
However, Apple has yet to announce a release date for the Vision Pro headset, but we do know that it is coming sometime next year, but only in the US at first.
