Indian Government Issues Critical Security Alert for Chrome Users: Learn More
Security alerts continue to alarm users in India, and India’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued the latest warning related to the Google Chrome browser used by millions on desktop, Mac and Linux systems.
The CERT-In notice is rated very serious, which is sure to alarm people who use Chrome on their machines. According to the alert, several vulnerabilities have been reported in Google Chrome that could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code and retrieve information from users by forcing them to visit specially targeted websites.
“Several vulnerabilities have been reported in the desktop version of Google Chrome that could be exploited by a remote attacker to expose arbitrary code and data on a targeted system,” CERT-In said in a note. The agency also said cyber attackers could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a victim to visit a specially crafted website.
Chrome has faced several security risks recently, in fact CERT-In had another warning for Indian users in September this year. The memo also points out that these vulnerabilities exist in Chrome for Desktop because they are used for free in media streaming, sidebar search, media capture, and improper implementation in autofill and the web browser interface.
Vulnerable versions of Google Chrome affected
The CERT-In alert mentions security risks affecting these versions of Google Chrome:
– Google Chrome versions earlier than 120.0.6099.62 for Linux and Mac
– Google Chrome versions 120.0.6099.62/.63 earlier Windows versions
The good news is that Google is already aware of these vulnerabilities and developed a fix for all of them with the latest versions of Chrome 120.0.6099.62 and .62/.63 for Linux, Mac and Windows, which are now available in the stable channel.
The update was released on December 5th and is now available to all Windows, Mac and Linux users who use Chrome for their browsing activities. You can go to Google Chrome Settings – About – Update your Chrome version right away on your PC or Mac.
