YouTube will reduce the number of ads displayed on televisions, but extend their duration.
Google announced Thursday that YouTube viewers will see fewer ads on television; but in turn they become longer. This comes after the platform discovered that 79% of its viewers prefer video ads that are “grouped together rather than spread across a video.” For now, this only applies to long-form content.
Additionally, viewers can see the total time left in an ad or until they can skip it instead of the number of ads that are shown. The streaming giant is expected to implement these changes soon.
YouTube shorts that now allow you to show ads on TVs
YouTube also brings ads to the TV platform so that more brands could reach their audience. This is due to an increase in viewership for Shorts on TV, with a 100% increase between January and September 2023.
The brand notes that “viewers’ experience with Shorts ads on connected TVs is consistent with mobile devices,” and as such, “viewers can use their TV remote to click on ads just like with any other Shorts.”
These changes will come to the YouTube platform on TV. It is not clear when these will roll out to users worldwide, but it will be soon enough now that there is an official announcement for the same.
YouTube Music has released its 2023 roundup for users. According to the platform, music fans can jump to their 2023 summary page in the YouTube Music app and scroll through to see their personal stats (top artists, songs, moods, genres, albums, playlists, and more) for the year.
