Indian Government Issues HIGH Warning to Google ChromeOS Users
The Government of India continues to alert users of important security alerts on various platforms. Recently, it warned Apple and Google users about iOS and Chrome issues, and this week there’s a new warning now focused on Google’s ChromeOS users.
The operating system runs on Chromebooks, which are a Windows alternative to laptops and mostly run on cloud applications. The security alert comes again through India’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), and the high concern rating means people should address the issue immediately.
ChromeOS security warning from the Indian government: what it says
The CERT-In bulletin provides more information about the issue and how it may affect ChromeOS users. “Several vulnerabilities have been reported in ChromeOS that could be exploited by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target platform,” CERT-In explains.
Further highlighting the details of the problem: “These vulnerabilities exist in ChromeOS due to integer overflow in Skia and use of the Garbage Collection, Mojo, and WebAudio components after free. An attacker could exploit this issue by persuading the victim to visit a specially crafted website,” the security agency adds.
The security issue affects Chrome devices running a ChromeOS LTS channel version earlier than 114.0.5735.343. So, the best way to prevent this problem from becoming a big problem for your device is to update to the latest software patch, which Google’s ChromeOS team has thankfully already released.
There is no doubt that CERT-In has become very proactive with these security warnings and public outreach and notification of potential risks if you are affected by the vulnerabilities.
