Multiple reports claim that the launch of Nintendo Switch 2 is now anticipated for early 2025.
Nintendo’s next-gen console, commonly referred to as the Nintendo Switch 2, was previously expected to launch this year in 2024. However, it has now been pushed back to “the early months of 2025”.
Several new reports from Bloomberg, Eurogamer, and VGC have suggested that the Nintendo Switch 2, which is expected to replace the current Nintendo Switch LCD and OLED models, will have a new release window. In addition, VGC also said that Nintendo could expect more first-party exclusive games alongside it.
“Two development sources VGC spoke to on Friday said they were working on Switch 2 games slated for release early next year, but could not confirm if that meant a later than expected release for the console itself,” VGC reported.
Last year, reports hinted that Nintendo offered certain media access to Switch 2 units “behind closed doors.” During these sessions, attendees had the opportunity to experience an enhanced version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that showcased improved resolution, along with other gameplay demos.
In addition, Nintendo’s recent patent filings offered insights into what the Nintendo Switch 2 might look like. The patent describes a design that deviates from reliance on the Joy-Cons. Instead, the said console features a new layout with a single joystick placed on the left side of the handheld, complemented by four buttons on the right. The top may retain the shoulder buttons, while the home button appears to have been moved to the bottom.
