Xbox President Hints at Biggest Technological Advancement Yet for Next-Generation Console
Recently, Xbox has been garnering attention for its new found strategy of making games available on multiple platforms. At least four games have been confirmed for rival consoles such as Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. This move has many Xbox fans wondering if the company is moving away from the console business to focus solely on publishing. However, recent statements from Xbox President Sarah Bond suggest otherwise.
During the “Updates on the Xbox Business” podcast, Bond shared insights on the next generation of Xbox consoles that will follow the Xbox Series X/S and compete directly with the PlayStation 6. He claimed that the upcoming Xbox will be “the biggest”. the technological leap you’ve ever seen in a generation of hardware,” allaying the concerns of Xbox fans.
Bond also teased, “There’s some exciting stuff coming up in the hardware that we’re going to share this holiday.”
These remarks show that Xbox still sees hardware as an important part of its gaming business and has no intention of abandoning it to become a publisher-only company.
“Our developers can build our hardware specs, and we put effort into making sure games run well on our hardware,” he said.
“But they’re also accessible from any screen thanks to all the other investments we’ve made. So we’re giving them an easy way to reach as many players as possible.”
However, despite being faster on paper than its rival, the Sony PS5, the Xbox Series X has been oversold. This is largely due to the lack of first-party games. As Xbox focuses on expanding game availability to competing consoles, it remains to be seen how the company will differentiate itself to attract new users.
