Apple is considering introducing advertisements to its Apple TV+ service, which may not be well-received by viewers.
As streaming platforms gain more viewers, the need to push ads is becoming more apparent. Most popular streaming apps now have a plan that pushes ads, and even Netflix is part of the list. However, we may see another big name join these ranks.
Apple is reportedly planning ads on its Apple TV+ platform, which likely won’t go down well with its subscribers. The company recently hired an advertising executive that seems to have stoked those fears, and it would be surprising if Apple doesn’t follow suit and introduce ads to its streaming service sooner rather than later.
We’ll likely learn more about this later this year at the Apple WWDC 2024 event, where advertising executives could be part of the keynote and discuss the platform and its future plans.
Streaming platforms spend billions creating original content and use in-house studios to produce unique movies and shows that turn heads.
But the metric used to measure streaming views is negligible, and it seems that companies are now realizing the need to monetize their business, and what better way than ads to spread their content, keep the platform affordable, and make money on the side. Amazon, Netflix and many other streaming apps have now resorted to serving ads, while some even have ads in their premium plans.
Live streaming was supposed to change the dynamic of advertising from standard TV feeds, but all signs point to the old ads on the big screen and your small screen making a comeback in a big way, which most will surely not like.
