Microsoft has become a household name in the AI world thanks to its partnership with OpenAI. But the company believes that other companies have a better chance of leading the market. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says he can’t believe Google isn’t leading the AI race, especially with all the tools and resources at its disposal. In fact, Nadella was quoted as saying on the podcast that Google should have been the default winner.

Why would he say that, especially when his company is way ahead of the California-based giant? Nadella pointed out that Google is the most vertically positioned company to take advantage of the AI boom. After all, it has the technology, the manpower, and even the data to train AI models.

It’s interesting to see Nadella talk about Google this way, but he’s not entirely wrong in his assessment. Google has been much talked about with its focus on artificial intelligence, but its entry into the segment with the Gemini AI model has been slow.

Google has repeatedly stated that it is in no rush to push AI without being completely sure of the behavior. And the company’s own concerns surfaced recently when an AI image generator was found to be inaccurate with historical figures and even racist to some extent.

Google was forced to suspend the feature, and this incident even caused Sundar Pichai to turn internally to employees and call the whole situation completely impossible. The company has big AI plans for 2024, and some of the changes could lead to the staff turnover made in recent months.

Speaking of Microsoft, the company is pushing its proactive approach to AI, leveraging the vast resources offered by OpenAI and providing its hardware to make the final product stick. Nadella would be secretly happy to see the progress of the company’s AI focus, which is gradually trickling down to Windows PCs. But he is also aware of potential moves by Google that could make it a fierce competitor in the near future.
