YouTube gives users more reasons to get the Premium version: Here’s how
YouTube wants more people to pay for its service and get the Premium version, and the platform continues to add new features that it thinks users will be interested in. You have options like background music, picture-in-picture support with the paid version, and now YouTube is slowly bringing videos with an enhanced bitrate of 1080p or Full HD video resolution.
YouTube claims that this enhanced quality makes things look better, even if there is a lot of detail in the video. Let’s just say that this new 1080p version is somewhere between the standard 1080p quality and 4K resolution.
The enhanced version is YouTube’s way of confirming that non-Premium subscribers won’t lose access to 1080p video quality, but premium users will get the enhanced version.
The rollout of the feature is currently limited to certain users with YouTube Premium on iOS, and those users can go to the current video’s settings and change it to the 1080p Premium option. It will be interesting to see how sharp the content looks for those who choose the 1080p Premium version, and how it compares to the standard 1080p option.
YouTube attributes the improvement to bitrate, so it’s possible that you might be able to see the difference in video quality between the two 1080p versions with the naked eye. YouTube also makes it clear that not all videos have the Premium option, so paying users of YouTube should know how this feature works and what other options they get.
YouTube Premium is available in several countries, and the package also gives you access to YouTube Music. You have select family packages that allow you to share an account with different family members and still have access to all the content.
