Mark Zuckerberg has announced that within seven hours of its launch, the highly anticipated Threads app, which is being touted as a competitor to Twitter, has already attracted 10 million Instagram users. Currently, the Threads app can only be accessed through an Instagram account, and independent sign-ups are not available.

Although Zuckerberg has made the login process very easy for Instagram users, you should know that you cannot delete your Threads profile. If you want to permanently delete your Threads profile and related information, you must also delete the Instagram account you used to sign in to Threads.

Once you’ve registered with Threads, you can only temporarily disable your profile. You simply cannot hit the Undo button and delete your Threads profile without losing your Instagram account.

Please note that disabling your Threads profile will not affect your Instagram account. However, things change if you deactivate your Instagram account. If you deactivate your Instagram account, your linked Threads profile will also be automatically deactivated.

Another consideration is that you can only deactivate your Threads profile once a week. Zuckerberg clearly doesn’t want people to walk away that easily. Currently, there is only one option to get rid of Threads: Disable your profile.

How to delete or disable your Instagram Threads profile:

Since you cannot delete your Threads profile on your own, please deactivate your profile as follows:

1. Visit your profile

2. Go to the options by tapping the “double line” icon above your profile picture in the upper right corner of the screen.

3. Tap Account, then tap Delete Profile.

4. Tap Delete Threads Profile and confirm.

What happens when you deactivate your Threads profile?

When you disable your Threads profile, your posts and interactions with other posts will not appear in threads. Note that deactivating your Threads profile will not delete your Threads data or affect your Instagram account. You have to delete the messages one by one.
