Meta Quest VR Headsets to Feature Roblox
Roblox, the widely acclaimed online game creation platform, is set to make its debut in virtual reality (VR) through the Meta Quest platform. The announcement was made by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and was further confirmed by an official blog post from Roblox. In a few weeks, a beta version of the app will be released, allowing users to access it through the dedicated App Lab on the Quest platform.
The beta is available for Quest 2 and Quest Pro headsets, so OG Quest owners are out of luck. The recently announced Quest 3 wasn’t mentioned, but that’s likely because it won’t appear in time for the beta release. However, a finished version of the game would make a very attractive Quest 3 release, as Roblox has over 66 million daily users across multiple platforms.
To that end, this is a fully cross-platform title, so anything you use or do on your phone or console should be available in VR, although it depends on the developer. The Roblox team is actively encouraging developers to make VR experiences with an upcoming set of tools available through the Creator Dashboard. You’ll soon see VR as a new device type in this dashboard, along with desktop, mobile, tablet, and console.
Meta recently lowered the minimum age to use Quest headsets from 13 to 10, but this change does not affect Roblox. You must be at least 13 years old to use the app in VR. That’s probably for the best, given the addictive nature of the title and the accompanying child safety concerns.
