India has over 15 million WhatsApp Business app users, says Mark Zuckerberg
Facebook today hosted the Facebook Fuel for India 2020 India. At the event, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg spoke about the impact of WhatsApp.
The CEO of Facebook said that WhatsApp’s business app has more than 50 million users worldwide, of which around 15 million are in India. We support more than 50 million WhatsApp business app users around the world every month already. And over 15 million of them are in India. So you know that with communities around the world now stuck, a lot of these entrepreneurs need digital tools they can rely on to find and connect with customers and grow their businesses, Facebook CEO told the ‘opportunity.
In addition, Zuckerberg praised India s efforts on financial inclusion. He also praised India’s unified payment interface.
We just launched WhatsApp payments in India last month. Now you can send money to friends and family via WhatsApp, just as easy as sending a message. This was made possible by the UPI system which was built in India. The unified payment interface allows anyone to instantly accept payments through different applications, he added.
Apart from that, the CEO of Facebook also said that what is happening in India is important for the whole world. What is happening in India is important to the whole world. India is building local and technological capacities to fuel innovative new business models and provide citizens with access to digital financial inclusion. So the decisions that are made here shape the global debate on how technology can generate more economic opportunities and better outcomes for people, Zuckerberg said.
