Threads App To Introduce Direct Messaging Feature: Here’s What You Need To Know
Threads, the social media platform by Meta, is said to be developing a feature that bears resemblance to Twitter. Reports suggest that Mark Zuckerberg’s latest micro-blogging platform is currently working on Direct Messaging (DMs), which will allow users to privately send messages within the platform.
Initially, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced that this feature would not be coming to Threads anytime soon. Now, a report from Business Insider has shared a leaked internal memo from Instagram that hints that DMs are “coming soon” to Threads.
Apart from this, the memo also suggested that Threads will get some other features as well. Additionally, social media analyst Matt Navarra shared a portion of a documentary on Twitter that claims the same thing. However, according to the report, the company has yet to officially announce a timeline for when the feature might appear on the platform.
A new feature of Threads, DMs, allows users to privately discuss sensitive topics they don’t want to discuss publicly. Previously, Threads users had to switch to another app for private conversations. Nor have users chosen Meta’s other apps, such as Messenger or Instagram, to do so.
The Threads App is available for both iPhone and Android smartphones. You can log in using your Instagram account and posts can be up to 500 characters long and contain links, photos and videos up to 5 minutes long. Threads allow users to follow and connect with friends and creators who share their interests, including people they follow on Instagram.
In addition, users under the age of 16 (or under 18 in some countries) are assigned a private profile by default when they join the app. In Threads, users can control who can mention or reply to them. Threads users can add specific words to filter out replies that contain those words in their threads.
