Jack Dorsey Rejects Allegations Of Increasing Violent And Abusive Content On Twitter
Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of Twitter, has denied a report alleging a significant increase in “hateful, violent, and inaccurate” content on the platform owned by Elon Musk.
Yaccarino said that Twitter has “moved on” and that most of the Tweets in the user’s feed are now fine.
“The Bloomberg article claims that harmful content viewed on Twitter is on the rise, but that’s not true. Here’s the truth: Over 99 percent of content viewed on Twitter is healthy,” he wrote.
It means that only a small amount of content requires moderation on Twitter.
“But regardless of the amount, we’re doing everything we can to make this platform as safe and healthy as possible. The Bloomberg story brought together a collection of false, misleading and outdated metrics, mostly from shortly after the Twitter acquisition,” Yaccarino said.
He said that over the past 8 months, “we’ve made strides in reducing the spread of hate speech, preventing child abuse, and giving brands more control over where their ads appear – from adjacency control to third-party verification.”
The microblogging platform stated in a separate statement that almost 99.99 percent of Tweet impressions are healthy.
“Which means only a small amount of content requires monitoring. But we’re doing everything we can to make this platform as safe and healthy as possible,” the company said.
Over the next two weeks, Twitter will continue to expand its ad placement controls to better support the massive growth in video consumption on the platform.
“We are actively developing pre-bid ad allocation filtering that allows for even better control of content contiguity,” Yaccarino added.
Musk has admitted Twitter is still in the red after a massive 50 percent drop in ad revenue and heavy debt in the past.
Meanwhile, Twitter has launched a new ad revenue sharing program for content creators and has already started paying them.
