X restores Kanye West’s Twitter Account, Reports US Media
According to the Wall Street Journal, X, the social media platform formerly recognized as Twitter, has restored the account of rapper and designer Kanye West after approximately eight months of suspension.
Last fall, West posted a picture of what appeared to be a swastika interlaced with a Star of David, and Tycoon Elon Musk suspended the artist from the platform he had purchased weeks earlier.
At the time, Musk described West’s message as “inciting violence.”
X’s press office did not immediately respond to an inquiry about West’s account. By late evening, West had yet to release anything new.
West, who now goes by profession as Ye, assured the platform that he would not use his account to share anti-Semitic content or use offensive language, the Journal said.
West’s anti-Semitic remarks last year cost him dearly in lost business deals. Adidas cut ties with him after nearly a decade of partnership and abandoned his Yeezy sneakers.
In May, the German company said the end of its highly successful partnership with West boosted sales by about 400 million euros ($441 million) in the first quarter of the year.
Gap and Balenciaga also cut ties with the rapper and designer.
Since buying Twitter for $44 billion last October, Musk has laid off thousands of employees and reduced content moderation.
In December, he reinstated former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account, although Trump has yet to return to the platform.
A week ago, Musk and his newly hired CEO Linda Yaccarino announced the change of Twitter to X, saying it would become an “everything app” that would allow users to manage all their finances as well as socialize.
Musk also killed the Twitter logo and replaced the world-famous blue bird with a white X.
