Air India to Utilize Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Technologies: Chandrasekaran
On Thursday, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, expressed that Air India will benefit from the most advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. He highlighted that the airline holds a special place within the group, being more than just a business but a passion and a national objective.
As the Tata Group steers the turnaround of loss-making Air India since taking over control in January last year, Chandrasekaran said most of the time he gets “caring criticism” of the airline, which also further strengthens the commitment.
Speaking at an event in the national capital where Air India’s new brand identity and aircraft livery were unveiled, he said the focus is on improving all the human resources of the airline.
According to him, hard work is needed, but the path is clear for the airline and added that the best aspects of artificial intelligence and machine learning will be implemented in the airline.
“We are focused on upgrading all human resources of the airline. Our fleet requires a lot of work. Although we have placed one of the largest fleet orders, it will take time.
“In the meantime, we need to refurbish our existing fleet to an acceptable level. Our aim is that Air India has the best machine learning and the best artificial intelligence than any other airline,” he said.
Chandrasekaran, who is also the chairman of Air India, said today is a very important milestone. “Our vision for the airline is also the background of a new, resurgent India, where everyone’s aspirations are limitless.”
The new logo, symbolized by that historically used window, the top of the golden window, means unlimited possibilities, progressiveness, self-confidence and all that, he emphasized.
“Air India is not another business for us, it is a passion, a great national mission… we have been working for the last 15 months on this journey because our vision is to make this airline world-class in modernity, safety, the most technologically advanced, exceptional customer service and experience that Air India used to be known,” Chandrasekaran said.
Tata Group took over Air India in January 2022.
“I get at least a couple of mails a day, either criticism or praise, but even the criticisms I get, long and short, have a little bit of care and heart – how can we go on like this? Don’t you fix it? It’s mostly very caring criticism, so our commitment only getting stronger day by day,” Chandrasekaran said.
Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy (JRD) Tata founded the airline in 1932 and named it Tata Airlines. In 1946, the aviation division of Tata Sons was listed as Air India, and in 1948, Air India International began flights to Europe.
The international service was among India’s first public-private partnerships, with the government owning 49 percent, the Tatas 25 percent and the public the rest.
In 1953, Air India was nationalized and last year the airline was transferred to the Tata Group from the government.
