IDC Report Reveals India’s PC Market Has Experienced a Decline for the Last Four Quarters

India’s traditional PC market, including desktops, laptops and workstations, faced challenges as only 3.2 million units were shipped in the second quarter of 2023 (2Q23), according to a new report by International Data Corporation (IDC).

Despite a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) growth of 5.9 percent, India’s PC market shrank by 15.3 percent in the second quarter of 2023 (April-June), according to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker.

According to IDC, in the second quarter of 2023 (2Q23), all product groups decreased from the previous year (yoY).

“India’s consumer PC segment has started to show signs of recovery as the market sentiment improves. Despite a double-digit decline in the previous year, it posted strong double-digit QoQ growth. PC vendors successfully executed higher education campaigns and gained good traction,” said Bharath Shenoy, Lead Market Analyst. , IDC India.

According to the report, HP was the market leader in the second quarter of 2023 (2Q23) with a share of 31.1 percent. It showed strong performance in both consumer and commercial segments. Lenovo secured the second place with a share of 16.2 percent, but decreased by 30.2 percent from the previous year.

Dell Technologies followed in third place with a 15.3 percent share. Acer Group rose to fourth place with a share of 11.4 percent. ASUS retained fifth place with a share of 7.2 percent.

According to the report, the vendor continued to perform well in the consumer segment as the offline channel expanded strongly, ranking second behind HP and Lenovo with a 14.8 percent share.

Notebook computers, a significant volume factor, also fell by 18.5 percent year-on-year, while the previously growing category of desktop computers fell by 7.0 percent year-on-year. Both the consumer and commercial segments saw declines, with consumer down 17.0 percent and commercial down 13.8 percent year over year, according to the report.

The education and administration segments continued to drive the PC market, while the enterprise segment continued to struggle. Government-led education initiatives in a few states like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu boosted the education segment, which grew by 43.7 percent year-on-year.
