Tablet Sales in India Increase by 29% in Q2, 5G Units Rise 7%: Report
A new report revealed that India’s tablet market grew by 29% in the second quarter of 2023, with 5G tablets growing at 7% year-on-year. Wi-Fi tablet deliveries increased by 12% and accounted for 54% of deliveries. The premium tablet segment grew significantly by 48%, but the overall tablet market declined by 22% over the same period.
Tablets have become useful for tasks such as electronic health record management, telemedicine and patient monitoring. CyberMedia Research (CMR) analyst Menka Kumari says the transition to 5G is promising, changing work, learning and leisure experiences.
The leading brands in the Indian tablet market in Q2 2023 were Apple (25%), Samsung (25%) and Lenovo (23%). Xiaomi experienced a remarkable 155 percent growth compared to a year ago. Tablets with 8-inch screens accounted for 18% of shipments, while tablets with 10-inch and larger screens accounted for 73% of shipments.
Tablets priced between Rs 20,000 and Rs 30,000 saw a significant increase of 185% in Q2 2023. The overall tablet market is expected to grow at a single-digit annual rate in 2023.
With the coming festive season, the purchase of tablets is predicted to increase. The fast 5G speed and low latency will open up new opportunities for tablet gaming, including live multiplayer games, augmented reality games and cloud gaming services without network issues, Kumari added.
