Analogue Pocket to Shine Brightly in September with its Glow-in-the-Dark Feature
When we reviewed the Analogue Pocket, we believed it was the ultimate way to experience the nostalgic era of handheld gaming. However, we are confident that our younger selves would be even more thrilled with the upcoming special edition version. The company is introducing a glow-in-the-dark handheld device called Pocket Glow, which will have a very limited availability of only $250 per unit. Sales will commence on September 1st at 8AM PDT/11AM EDT, and the product will be in stock and ready for shipping on September 5th.
The console uses a material that absorbs and then re-emits light. This means that those who want to see it glow must place it under direct sunlight, an incandescent lamp, or a black light. It can glow for up to eight hours, though it’s unclear how long users have to “charge” the console to keep it lit all the time. Like the original Pocket, it can natively play cartridges from any Game Boy version, and can play cartridges from other handheld consoles with an adapter.
In addition to the release of the Pocket Glow, Analogue has also announced that 100 percent of all pre-orders for the handheld will ship to date. The original Analogue Pocket came out in December 2021 after several delays, and pre-orders have been sent to buyers in batches since then. Those looking to stock up on accessories for their consoles might want to check out Analogue’s store for the massive inventory that’s arriving today as well, especially as the company adds a new shipping option for domestic shipments within the US. Users have complained about “outrageous” shipping charges when buying from Analogue’s website, and the new option apparently cuts those amounts by between 30 and 50 percent.
