Animated Series Based on ‘Dead Cells’ to be Released in 2024
Motion Twin, the developer of Dead Cells, has recently revealed that an animated series based on the game will be released in 2024. The series is being produced by Bobbypills, a French studio that has previously worked on the game’s animated trailers and DLC releases. The show appears to follow the game’s storyline, taking place on a cursed island inhabited by monstrous creatures and featuring prophecies of a flame-headed hero.
The series is co-produced by the French anime distribution service Animation Digital Network. The first season of the Dead Cells cartoon consists of ten episodes, each of which is about seven or ten minutes long. It will also initially be exclusive to France before being released at some point after the first premiere. There’s a short teaser trailer that doesn’t reveal too much, but gives an idea of the style of the animation.
Developer Motion Twin promises that the upcoming animated series will not detract from its commitment to providing constant updates and new content to the original game. Dead Cells is available on almost every platform out there, including PC, consoles, and mobile, and has sold 10 million copies in its lifetime. For the uninitiated, the critically acclaimed game is a roguelike/metroidvania hybrid that casts you as—surprise—a flame-headed hero trying to escape a cursed island.
