Apple CEO Tim Cook Explains the High Price of Vision Pro Headset, Priced at Approximately Rs 3 Lakh
The Apple Vision Pro has finally gone on sale, and the $3,499 (approx. Rs. 2.90 lakh) headset is dividing opinion purely because of the technology the company is investing in.
Apple’s entry into mixed reality (XR) has been much later than most tech giants, such as Meta and even Google to some extent. But now that the participation authority and the product are on the shelves, it’s time to see the market response, which is said to be close to around 180,000 units. It is interesting that just before the product was sold, Apple CEO Tim Cook appeared in the media for the first time in front of the public wearing Vision Pro headphones.
But the main question everyone is asking Cook and Co. is why does it cost so much? Well, it’s no surprise that Apple charges a premium for its first headset, but why is there a 6x price difference between the Vision Pro and the Meta Quest?
Tim Cook was understandably asked about this, and according to the CEO of Apple, the high price is an indication of the advancement of technology packed into the device.
The company believes the headset is powered by two Apple silicones built using over 5,000 patents and offers over 500 applications at launch, making it a quality addition to the market for consumers. And if that’s not reason enough for the company to demand a hefty price tag for the product, Cook reiterates years of effort to make spatial computing a reality, made possible by machine learning and artificial intelligence.
If the company has received almost 2,000,000 pre-orders for the product, it seems that Apple could give new life to the segment that Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg is betting on, which could mean that his company could have an Android-like impact on the segment.
While Apple has had hundreds of apps compatible with the headset since its inception, the company hasn’t caught up with big names like Netflix, YouTube, and a few other platforms.
