Apple Discusses Advantages of USB C Port on iPhone 15 Series

Apple reveals details about the new USB C charging port you’ll get on the iPhone 15 series this year. The company is forced to make this radical change by moving away from the proprietary lightning connector due to European Union (EU) charger regulations.

But now that the change is official and all iPhone markets will get a compatible model, Apple is openly sharing the details of this new USB C technology on the iPhone 15 models and how consumers will benefit from using this charging technology. Apple has mentioned the details of USB C charging for the iPhone 15 series in the support document.

As the details progress, Apple claims that the iPhone 15 series with USB-C port will support these features:

Charge iPhone 15 with Power Delivery (PD): Apple says you can charge iPhone 15 models with any USB C cable that supports PD, which should definitely please the millions of Android users who have relied on PD cables for years. However, the charging speed has not changed, unless you choose a higher-power iPhone adapter.

Use iPhone 15 to charge AirPods and Watch: As we mentioned earlier, iPhone 15 can help you charge specific Apple devices like AirPods and Apple Watch. The company doesn’t mention it specifically, but the USB C port on the iPhone 15 series will help you with reverse wired charging, similar to the support offered by iPads.

Fast data transfer speeds, but pluses: the USB 3.2 standard in the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max enables data transfer at a speed of up to 10 Gbps. Apple only supplies you with a USB C 2.0 cable in the box, so you’ll have to spend a few more to get this compatible cable.

Other iPhone 15 USB C features: Connect an external speaker, connect an external display and more. There have been questions about using third-party USB-C cables to charge iPhone 15 models and whether you need a Made for iPhone/iPad (MFi) cable to safely charge your iPhone. But there is no mention of using a specific cable to charge the iPhone, which is good news for many people.
