Apple Expected To Release M3-Equipped Macs In October
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is said to be preparing for the release of new Macs featuring M3 chipsets in October. This event will come after the announcement of the iPhone 15 series in September and will primarily highlight the latest Macs powered by the M3 chip.
After announcing the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in January and recently the new 15-inch MacBook Air, Mac Studio and Mac Pro models in June 2023, Apple is expected to announce the new iMac, the 13-inch MacBook. Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro with the latest M3 chip.
According to the report, the M3 chip is expected to be built on chip manufacturing partner TSMC’s 3nm process, which will significantly improve performance and efficiency over the 5nm M2 chip on which Apple’s latest Mac models are based.
TSMC began mass production of 3nm chips in late December, MacRumors reports. Gurman also claimed that the iPhone maker is actively developing the sixth-generation iPad Air. However, it is unclear when the next model will be released.
According to Gurman, there will be no significant updates to the iPad range this year. While an iPad Air with improved specifications may still be released, it is uncertain whether it will happen later this year or in 2024.
“For those wondering about the iPad — another product that typically gets updated in October — I wouldn’t expect any major updates until the M3 iPad Pros with OLED displays arrive next year,” Gurman said. He added that “an iPad Air model that boosts its specifications is also in development,” but gave no further details.
The Cupertino-based company last updated the iPad Air in March 2022 with an M1 chip, an updated 12-megapixel front-facing camera with Center Stage support, a faster USB-C port, 5G support for cellular models, and new color options.
