Apple Watch automatically calls 911 and saves a woman’s life after a ruptured aorta
We’ve all heard about how the Apple Watch is well-documented as one of the best health and fitness trackers out there — and how it can detect irregular heartbeats and other ailments, saving lives. Now the Apple Watch has once again been able to save a woman’s life after a ruptured aorta.
As 9to5Mac discovered, the woman’s Apple Watch reportedly automatically dialed 911 after detecting movement in her head after she collapsed from a ruptured aorta.
According to the woman’s daughter, known as Xanderpy on Reddit, the woman experienced chest pain while commuting to work and staying at the hotel. He then texted his friend, who was also at the hotel, asking him to come to his room. Shortly after sending the message, however, the woman collapsed and fell face first on the floor.
When her friend got to her room, she found her collapsed on the floor and immediately called 911 – only to find out an ambulance was already on its way to the hotel, saving precious time.
Later, when the woman recovered, she was asked if she had called 911, but to everyone’s surprise, she had not. It was the Apple Watch that had called the emergency services.
The woman’s daughter said gratefully: “I sometimes see stories like this and think that they are exaggerated for publicity or possibly just made up. Apparently I don’t think about this anymore. Apple technology already has a firm grip on me and my entire family, but this… this was something else. This made me an Apple user for life and showed me that technology like this can really save lives.”
