Apple Watch to Feature Detection of Hypertension and Sleep Apnea: Here’s What You Need to Know
According to sources familiar with the matter, Apple Inc. is reportedly working on multiple health-related features for the upcoming Apple Watch in the following year, along with a paid health service.
Bloomberg News first reported on these projects in a study published Tuesday about Apple’s evolving approach to healthcare. Here are the key details on what’s planned for the Apple Watch in 2024:
- A new sensor that detects when a person’s blood pressure has increased. The original system doesn’t show the user their exact systolic and diastolic measurements, but the company is working on a follow-up version for future use. This will be combined with a new blood pressure diary to allow the user to record what happened when hypertension occurred.
- A new system for detecting sleep apnea. Apple Watch monitors a person’s sleep and breathing patterns to predict if they have a disease. The application then recommends the user to follow up with a doctor.
Bloomberg News previously reported that Apple is working on a new Apple Watch later next year. Apple is also working on several other new health features, including:
- With new features that make AirPods over-the-counter hearing aids, the company is looking to leverage its popular headphones into the growing hearing aid space. The company is also developing new features that allow users to test their hearing.
- The digital, paid health coaching service is still under development. The company is discussing using artificial intelligence and data from users’ devices to create personalized training and meal plans for customers.
- The company is investigating the anti-anxiety and training properties of the upcoming Vision Pro headset.
