Apple Watch Series 9 Unveiled With S9 Chip, ‘Double Tab’ Gesture: Price, Features Revealed
The Apple Watch Series 9 is finally official, and it’s been revealed with a slew of upgrades over the Apple Watch Series 8 — including a new S9 chip with 60% more transistors than the Apple Watch Series 8. It also comes with the second generation. an ultra-wideband chip that allows users to better communicate with nearby Apple devices to improve range and functionality.
Apple Watch Series 9 features and specifications
The Apple Watch Series 9 is powered by the Apple S9 chip, which allows the watch to support a number of new features such as fast charging support, on-device Siri and a new gesture-based feature called “double tap”. The S9 processor’s 4-core Neural Engine that recognizes wrist movements to enable double-tap.
“Users can tap their index finger and thumb together twice to quickly and conveniently perform many of the most common functions on Apple Watch Series 9,” Apple said.
The Apple Watch Series 9 also gets a new display that can reach a peak brightness of 2,000 nits – double that of the Apple Watch Series 8 – with a minimum brightness of just 1 nit.
As for battery life, Apple claims that “the power efficiency of the S9 SiP enables Apple Watch Series 9 to maintain an all-day battery life of 18 hours.”
Apple Watch Series 9 runs watchOS 10 out of the box and brings a number of new features, including a new Smart Stack, new Compass Waypoints and Maps features, and the ability to measure time spent in daylight using an ambient light sensor to help reduce nearsightedness.
Another significant change in the Apple Watch Series 9 and the entire collection is the removal of leather from cases and watchbands. Instead, the iPhone maker has introduced a new material called “FineWoven” as part of its commitment to being a carbon-neutral company.
Apple Watch Series 9 price
The Apple Watch Series 9 is now available for pre-order starting today and will be available on September 22nd. It starts at $399 for the GPS versions and $499 for the GPS+Cellular version.
