Apple Watches Receive WatchOS 10.1 Update, Enabling Double Tap Gesture Feature
Apple WatchOS 10.1 update is now available for download in India. The latest update includes new features, improvements and bug fixes, including the Double Tap gesture. The new double-tap gesture is only available for Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 users.
The Double Tap gesture provides a quick and convenient way to interact with Apple Watch. According to the company, it can be used to perform a primary action on notifications and most apps, so you can answer a call, play and pause music, stop a timer, and more.
With the double-tap gesture, users can easily control the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 with one hand and without touching the screen. Users can tap their index finger and thumb together twice on the watch face to quickly perform many of the most common actions.
This new feature complements existing gestures such as tap, swipe, lift to wake and cover to mute, making using Apple Watch simple and intuitive.
The feature also allows users to choose the preferred action for many watchOS apps and notifications, including opening the Smart Stack and scrolling through widgets; answering and ending calls; and play and pause music.
“It works whenever the screen is awake, and the feature is available all day without affecting the 18-hour battery life of the Apple Watch Series 9 or the 36-hour battery life of the Apple Watch Ultra 2,” the company said.
The watchOS 10.1 update also includes the NameDrop feature, which lets you exchange contacts with someone new simply by bringing your Apple Watch near an iPhone running iOS 17 or Apple Watch.
This feature is available on Apple Watch SE 2, Apple Watch Series 7 and later, and Apple Watch Ultra. watchOS 10.1 is available for Apple Watch Series 4 and later starting today, and requires an iPhone XS or later running iOS 17.
