Chandrayaan-3 mission ranks among India’s top trending Google searches in 2023, alongside G20.
According to Google, India’s prominence in 2023 was evident as the nation gained global attention in various areas, such as the Chandrayaan-3 mission and its participation in the G20 summit. These events captured the interest of netizens and were reflected in the list of popular searches in India.
According to Google’s “Year in Search 2023” blog post on Monday, this year will also see people communicating through memes, embracing self-care and technology, enjoying culinary delights and grappling with local and global developments.
“Chandrayaan-3’s historic success headlined news events, and the explosive journey from space sparked local and global searches. India’s G20 presidency led What Is searches, which showed significant curiosity about the event,” it said.
Other news-related polls also showed that people stayed up-to-date on local events, from Karnataka election results to the Uniform Civil Code, while many tried to make sense of global events by searching Israel News and the Turkish earthquake.
“People showed great interest in self-care and technology” as they looked for ways to prevent sun-induced skin and hair damage with home remedies, according to the collection.
In particular, the expansion of the creator ecosystem in India was reflected in trending queries, with many wanting to know “how to reach my first 5,000 followers on YouTube”.
“Our passion for cricket was at its peak as queries for the Cricket World Cup and India-Australia cricket matches reached an all-time high this year. But the love for Indian cricket was truly seen across borders,” the blog said.
The Indian national cricket team ranked as the most popular cricket team in the world, the only cricket team to find a place as part of our list of global sports teams. Shubman Gill and Rachin Ravindra emerged as the most popular cricketers locally and globally.
The searches also highlighted a step towards diversity in sports.
According to Google’s report, the first-ever Women’s Premier League ranked high in sporting events alongside the Women’s Cricket World Cup. Apart from cricket, people tried their hand at other sports on the field asking questions like ‘How to get good at Kabaddi’ and ‘How to become a chess grandmaster’.
In movies, while the ‘Barbenheimer’ phenomenon caught the world’s attention, Indian movies were not far behind.
“Jawan staked its claim on top local movie searches and top movie searches globally. Gadar 2 and Pathaan also got the coveted spots as local and global trending movies,” it said.
