Concerned about the ongoing issue of spam calls and fraudsters? The Indian government now allows you to report them.
Indians face constant problems with spam calls and scammers trying to steal money. Most of these incidents cause a lot of inconvenience to people, but the Indian government finally has a way for you to report such incidents.
The platform is called Chakshu, which serves to report suspected fraud communications, which can be phone calls, text messages and even WhatsApp calls. The platform says you can report any spam calls or fraudulent messages you’ve received in the past 30 days. The portal also points out that the Chakshu facility does not deal with financial fraud or cybercrime cases for which the government has another portal/service for reporting complaints.
Chakshu Portal To Report Spam/Scam Calls: How It Works
You can go to the Chakshu portal here and start the complaint reporting process.
You will now see a list of questions and information to fill in, including sharing a screenshot of the event, which could be a spam call or WhatsApp scam message.
An instrument of deception
Here you can choose the medium of fraud, which can be a regular call, SMS or WhatsApp.
Details of the fraud
The next step involves sharing the details of the fraud, which also looks at the nature of the fraud. The categories mentioned here are KYC bank related, sex pains, malicious links sent via SMS, fake customer service and many more. You must also attach a screenshot of the fraud, which can be a text message or Call Details, along with the date and time of the incident. The portal will then ask for additional information, which can be provided in 500 characters.
Personal information is required
Once you’ve shared the fraud details, the portal will look for your contact details, including the phone number where the fraud text message or spam call was received. After providing all these details, the portal will ask you to verify the form with OTP on the registered number, after which you can submit it to the authority.
