Data Breach of LetMeSpy App Exposes Thousands of Users’ Location and Messages

Bad news for certain Android phone users as their data has been stolen by hackers. The LetMeSpy app, which was designed for tracking and spying on individuals, has fallen victim to a cyber attack. According to cybersecurity company Bitdefender, the app has released a security notice stating that its servers were breached and valuable data was stolen by malicious actors. LetMeSpy’s website has also confirmed the incident, stating that unauthorized access to user data occurred on June 21, 2023.

LetMeSpy app is a free mobile app for Android mobile phones. It tracks calls, text messages and GPS locations on the phone it is installed on. This program is very light and can be invisible to the user. The app’s description reads: “Just download the setup file and install the app on the phone you want to track. You can track the tracked phone 24 hours a day from your computer at www.letmespy.com.” Needless to say, it tracks thousands of people with or without their knowledge, and that information is now in the hands of hackers.

Is LetMeSpy app still a threat to Android users?

The company has disabled their service as soon as they learned about the hacks, the report confirmed. The information was first published by the Polish news company niebezpiecnik.pl, which received information from the attacker himself, who claimed to have received sensitive information on the spyware maker’s domain.

Meanwhile, DDoSecrets, which publicly indexes the leaked datasets, obtained a copy of the data hacked from the LetMeSpy app, a TechCrunch report said. The material contains a lot of information from the victims’ call logs and text messages since 2013. According to the information, the data of at least 13,000 users has been compromised. In addition, it also tracked the location data of more than 13,400 users. Based on location data points, the victims are mainly from the United States, West Africa and India.
