DMRC Launches WhatsApp-Based Ticketing Service Across All Delhi Metro Corridors
The Delhi Metro has expanded its WhatsApp-based ticketing service to include all corridors, including the Gurugram Rapid Metro, allowing commuters to travel seamlessly across the entire rapid transit system.
The service was first launched on the Airport Express line in May.
“DMRC has now extended this state-of-the-art service to cover all lines in the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi, including the Gurugram Rapid Metro in collaboration with Meta and their authorized partner Pelocal Fintech Pvt. Ltd,” Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement.
Passengers have experienced the convenience of this service since its introduction on the Airport Line. Passengers can now simply send a message with the text ‘Hello’ to 91 9650855800 on WhatsApp or scan the provided QR code to effortlessly purchase metro tickets on their smartphones online, officials said.
Available in both English and Hindi, this user-friendly WhatsApp chatbot caters to a wide range of metro drivers.
“The service now extends its coverage to the entire DMRC network, covering all stations, including the Gurugram Rapid Metro Corridor. With the introduction of this WhatsApp-based ticketing system, metro commuters now have the convenience of purchasing tickets at the comfort of their homes or workplaces,” the statement said.
DMRC CEO Vikas Kumar said, “Giving metro commuters the option to buy metro tickets through a simple chat will significantly improve their travel experience. WhatsApp is the most popular messaging platform for most Indians, and buying a metro ticket is now as easy as texting a friend or family member. We believe, that this integration will encourage more commuters to choose the Delhi Metro as their preferred mode of travel.”
“Our aim is to simplify the travel experience for WhatsApp users and this is another step in that direction. Every day, millions of commuters rely on the Delhi Metro to reach their desired destinations and we are excited to bring this ticketing experience to their region. WhatsApp Chats,” Head of Business Messaging, India Meta Ravi Garg said in a statement.
To activate the service, commuters need to add DMRC’s official WhatsApp number 9650855800 to their phone’s contact list. For individual and group trips, a maximum of six QR code-based tickets can be created for each passenger, the authorities say.
Tickets can be booked from 6 am to 9 pm for all lines and from 4 am to 11 pm for Airport Line (Orange Line), DMRC said.
Ticket cancellations are not allowed on WhatsApp tickets. Marginal convenience fee will be applicable for credit or debit card transactions, while no convenience fee will be charged for UPI-based transactions, it said.
