Everything You Need To Know About Netflix’s New Game Controller App For iOS
Streaming giant Netflix has introduced the Netflix Game Controller app, which allows users to play Netflix games on their television screen. According to the Apple App Store description, the Game Controller app pairs with your TV so you can play Netflix games on your iPhone.
Currently, Netflix games can only be used on iPhone and iPad, and cannot be played on Apple TV or other TV platforms. While the app is currently inactive, it does indicate that TV games are coming “soon to Netflix.”
The app includes a directional button on the left side of the iPhone screen and the A, X, Y, and B function buttons on the right side. Netflix originally introduced games in 2021 and currently has over 50 games available.
Access is included with your Netflix membership, with no additional fees or in-app purchases. Some of the games on Netflix include Tomb Raider, Stranger Things, Bloons TD 6, World of Goo, Exploding Kittens, Heads Up and Cut the Rope.
In October of last year, Netflix head of games Mike Verdu had said that the company was “exploring a cloud gaming offering,” reported TechCrunch. He also said that the company is opening a new game studio in Southern California, headed by former Chacko Sonny. executive producer on Overwatch at Blizzard Entertainment.
Verdu had also claimed that he did not see Netflix as a competitor to PlayStation or Xbox. In May, Leanne Loombe, head of external games at Netflix, had talked about the company’s cloud gaming plans. “We believe cloud gaming allows us to provide such easy access to games on any screen. Our overall vision is for our members to be able to play games on any of their Netflix devices.”
In March, the company was spotted working on an iPhone-based game controller.
