Gemini May Be the Name of Google’s New Assistant Exclusive to Pixel Devices
Google Assistant is a virtual assistant for Android users, and now, maybe even for Apple users, as it can be launched with a single button press on the iPhone 15 Pro. Not only is it fast, it’s still more functional than competitors like Siri to this day. However, even Assistant has limitations, especially when it can’t connect to the Internet. For this reason, Google may be considering introducing another AI-powered assistant exclusively for its Pixel devices.
According to a new report from The Information, Google is working on building a new AI Assistant that could be called Pixie. It’s said to be a Pixel exclusive and can perform complex tasks that Google Assistant simply can’t. . That’s because the “Pixie” could be based on Google’s new Gemini Nano large-language model, which has already made its way to the Pixel 8 Pro smartphone in apps like Recorder and Gboard.
Another thing worth noting is that the Pixel 8 Pro’s Gemini Nano-powered features are all on-board, meaning you don’t need to be connected to the internet to use them. Here, “Pixie” may have a significant advantage over Google Assistant, as it may be able to perform tasks on the device without a network connection.
It’s not exactly clear which Pixel models could get this new assistant, but the report adds that we might see Pixie coming to the Pixel 9 series when it launches next year. Google typically released its new flagships every year in October, so it could be a long time before we finally get to see this alleged assistant.
However, Google has decided to reserve many of its new AI-powered features, such as Summarize in the Recorder app and Smart Reply for Gboard, for the Pixel 8 Pro, but not release them for the vanilla Pixel 8. new assistant exclusive to Pixel 9 Pro?
