Generating Short Videos From YouTube Comments Could Be Possible
YouTube’s short video platform, Shorts, initially entered the market later than its competitors. However, it has now gained significant popularity among creators and the general public. The platform is constantly improving and introducing new features, with ongoing testing of various additions. One such feature being tested is the capability to create Shorts videos using comments.
That’s right, you can use the help of YouTube to create Shorts videos from other people’s comments. YouTube’s internal support page suggests the feature be called Viewer-Generated Shorts with Comments.
Tests are done with both Android and iOS devices, but for now with selected users. Using comments to create Shorts sounds like an interesting feature, but we’re not sure if people are actually asking for such an option. Internal tests don’t necessarily mean this feature will be released to the public, but it’s good to see that YouTube is experimenting with different options, helping Shorts to be a different proposition compared to Reels and TikTok.
While users may benefit from the ease of making Shorts content, it raises questions about YouTube’s control over what and whose comments are used to make a video. After all, comments on the platform are different, offensive and even random points.
That’s why it’s important for Shorts to have a handle on what kind of content is being created with comments, or else it would be critical that YouTube be better able to review Shorts’ comments section and all of its videos in general. YouTube Shorts is now available on all devices, including the mobile app, TV and web. But it’s likely that the commenting feature will be limited to the mobile app, as most people comment on Shorts videos via mobile.
