Google Maps Identifies India With Its National Flag
If you type “Bharat” into the Google Maps search box, it will now appear as “Country in South Asia” along with the digital code of the Indian flag. Whether you use Google Maps in Hindi or English, searching for “Bharat” will give the same result as Google showing “India”. Both “India” and “Bharat” are now recognized as “South Asian countries”, and Google Maps users can use either “Bharat” or “India” to see the official map of India.
In the Hindi version of Google Maps, Google will show “भारत”, on the other hand, if you use English, the search results “India” will be displayed. As for the text description, it is the same in both Hindi and English. At a time when the central government is slowly using “Bharat” instead of “India” in official communications, Google seems to be doing its homework.
In addition to Google Maps, Google allows users to use both “Bharat” and “India” in other products such as Search, Translator and News to get similar results. While there is no official word on this from Google now, a simple search will reveal changes that Google may have made in the background.
Recently, the first proposal submitted by the railway ministry to the Union government has reportedly dropped the word ‘India’ and replaced it with the word ‘Bharat’ in its entire content.
Especially for Google users in India, if you pay close attention in Hindi, Google now prefers to use “भारत” instead of “इंदिया”. Also, in the English to Hindi translation, India was always presented in English and “भारत” in Hindi. Google Translate also offers other substances for “India” in the form of “हिंदुस्तान” and “भारतवर्ष”.
The new change appears to be gradually rolling out to users, and it may take some time for all users to see it.
