Here’s How Google Maps Will Now Provide Navigation Support Inside Tunnels While Driving
How many times have you struggled to get your GPS to work while driving through a tunnel? Even Google Maps can’t help you in these areas, but not anymore. The popular app now has a new Bluetooth feature that can restore location tracking even inside tunnels, which is a boon if you like to hike a lot in the wilderness.
So how does Google do this? The company uses Bluetooth beacons, which are now supported in Maps, but are limited to Android users for now. These beacons have been used with Waze (also owned by Google), which operates in many cities around the world.
This is the first time Maps is getting this technology, which could be a lifesaver and more for Android users on the go. It’s taken Google all these years to bring the technology to Maps for users, but we’re glad it’s finally here. If you go to the Maps settings, you will see an option that is available, but disabled by default. You can enable it if needed.
How to Enable Bluetooth Beacon in Google Maps
– Go to the Maps settings by clicking on the profile picture
– Scroll down to Navigation Settings and click on it
– Scroll down the page to the driving options, where you can find the Bluetooth tunnel beacons
– Activate the feature by moving the toggle button
– Maps asks for permission to find, connect and determine the location of nearby devices
– Let the app use these sensors and the beacon will work on your phone
It’s likely that once the rollout is complete for Android users, Google will release the feature for those using Maps on iPhone.
