Google Messages App Introducing Animated Emojis
According to reports, Google is currently experimenting with the feature of sending animated emojis through the Android standard messaging app, Google Messages. The aim is to enhance the liveliness and enjoyment of regular messaging, although there are some restrictions in place.
According to Android Police, animated emojis only work when users send a single emoji. However, if users send multiple emojis together or combine emojis with text, the animated function will not work.
Google Messages allows users to send emoticons in text messages, but adding animated emoji makes the app more appealing to users and brings the experience in line with Apple’s iMessage and others like Telegram.
For example, iMessage offers various text bubble effects when sending text messages or emoticons, such as party, slam, gentle, invisible ink, and display effects including echo, spotlight, balloons, and confetti. In addition, users can send custom Animoji emojis by selecting a smiley, a character or their own avatar and using their own facial expressions.
This is likely Google’s way of bringing a similar user experience to Android. The new animated emoji experience, first spotted by Reddit user BruthaBeige, is based on the Emoji Kitchen experience, which allows users to combine two emojis to create a combination of the two, resulting in weird but fun emojis that users can send to each other. .
Google’s current deployment is reportedly region-specific, and a wider deployment is expected in the future. It works with most emojis available on Android.
In other news, Google has also added a new token/indicator for RCS chats in Google Messages, which allows users to distinguish RCS chats from regular SMS chats.
