HTC executive says Apple’s mixed reality plans don’t scare them
Apple plans to launch its first Mixed Reality headsets later this year, which is likely to interest existing brands in the segment, such as Meta and HTC.
However, this week the head of HTC has come out stating that the company is not afraid of competition, in this case Apple’s entry into the Mixed Reality (XR) arena. HTC CEO and founder Cher Wang was quoted by CNBC as saying that Apple’s XR headset would launch in mid-2023 or later this year. He also argued that Apple could focus mainly on the XR ecosystem instead of having augmented reality glasses on the market. The XR headset offers you the best AR and VR features combined into one ecosystem.
HTC believes that Apple’s move into XR space exploration is good for the industry and also shows that the company has made the right decision to enter the segment. The company is expected to make big reveals at WWDC 2023 for consumers and developers to get their first taste of the rumored realityOS platform.
Apple has been a pioneer in this field for many years. It was one of the first tech brands to abandon the iPhone’s headphone jack and introduce the unique AirPods, which have now become a mainstream product in the market at various price points.
Wang believes Apple is ready to enter the XR segment because it believes the market is big enough for the company to make a dent, the report adds.
He also mentions that Apple’s history with moving into the segment means that the product has been redefined for the industry, allowing other brands to copy similar ideas for their versions. HTC has adopted a unique approach by exiting the mobile business and focusing its new products on segments such as VR and XR. Let’s hope that Apple’s upcoming market entry will also benefit it.
