Indian Health Ministry Website Hit By Russian Hackers: Cyber Security Company
Cybersecurity researchers at CloudSEK have claimed that a Russian hacker group had targeted the website of the Indian Ministry of Health and compromised its Health Management Information System (HMIS).
The pro-Russian hacker group Phoenix allegedly compromised the HMIS portal and gained access to the data of employees and chief doctors of all hospitals in the country, the AI-based cyber security company claimed.
According to CloudSEK’s contextual AI digital risk platform XVigil, “this target was motivated by the sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation, where the Indian authorities decided not to violate the sanctions, as well as comply with the Russian oil price ceiling agreed by the G7 countries.”
“This decision led to several polls on the Telegram channel of the Russian hacktivist Phoenix asking followers for their votes,” it added.
According to security researchers, Russian threat actors can sell filtered license documents and personally identifiable information (PII) on cybercrime forums and commit document fraud using PII and license documents.
