ISRO Plans to Launch Female Astronauts on Gaganyaan Mission
On Saturday, ISRO successfully carried out its inaugural test flight called Gaganyan TV-D1 mission, accomplishing all its intended goals. The test flight primarily concentrated on examining separation procedures and the functionality of the crew model system for the forthcoming mission. Following the triumph, ISRO’s chief, S. Somanath, expressed a preference for female fighter test pilots and women scientists to be involved in the Gaganyaan mission. Discover further details about his plans for the mission.
Manned mission of Gaganyan
According to reports, Somanath told PTI that the Gaganyaan mission may involve women fighter test pilots or women scientists and he also plans to include them in the official launch in the future as well. He went on to talk about sending a female humanoid robot during the unmanned Gaganyaan mission, which is expected to take place next year. Somanath said, “No doubt about it…but we have to find such potential (women) candidates in future.” he added: “Right now the first candidates have to be Air Force fighter test pilots… they’re a little different category. Right now we don’t have female fighter test pilots. So when they come, it’s one route.”
ISRO plans that until the official launch of the Gaganyaan manned mission, they hope to have more female pilots join the team and until then female scientists will be part of the mission as astronauts. According to reports, the Gaganyan mission will take place in 2025, and until then, the space agency will continue development and testing to achieve a successful mission.
About the Gaganyaan mission
The Gaganyaan mission is ISRO’s first manned project that will take humans to an altitude of 400 km in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) for three days and bring them back safely by landing in the Indian Ocean. This mission lays the groundwork for a long-term sustainable Indian human space exploration program that also strengthens the country’s position as a key player in space exploration.
As part of this program, the Government of India has given the green light for two unmanned and one manned missions. So far, the mission’s payloads are in various stages of development, and ISRO plans to conduct a series of tests before the official launch.
