What We Know About Google Assistant’s Possible Rebranding as Bard on Phones
Google’s AI revolution is accelerating in different corners. The company has released Gemini AI in three versions that run on mainframes, smartphones, and more. But Google’s biggest change could mean the end of Assistant on your phone and push Bard to the forefront for the foreseeable future.
That’s right, Bard could become a de facto AI assistant on phones, replacing the old Google Assistant once and for all. Details of these changes come via 9to5Google, which has spotted the rebranded app uploaded to the Play Store.
Just a few weeks ago, you saw Assistant written into the app and even in the introductory message to users. But the report notes that the latest update to the same app now shows Bard separately, with no sign of Assistant anywhere in the code trail. Knowing Google and its habits, it’s likely that Assistant will now give way to Bard as the company looks to add AI to its Assistant in phones.
Does this mean Google is ready to ditch Assistant in favor of just Bard from now on? The company hasn’t officially talked about these changes, at least for now, so we’d rather wait for Google to reaffirm the brand and also see if the new AI feature makes its way to consumers.
You could say that with the ever-evolving ChatGPT now running on Android phones, it was inevitable that Google would take a fresh look at the assistant. Bard is probably the right direction to go for Google and let its AI-centric plans take shape.
The company has already decided to remove about 20 features from Assistant that point to something going on behind the scenes at Google, and the latest findings lend more credence to that. Hey Bard may soon become a wake-up call for Android users looking to activate an AI-powered assistant.
