Larry Summers: OpenAI Tech is ‘Extraordinarily Important’ – Don’t Miss Out!
Larry Summers, recently appointed to the board of OpenAI, an artificial intelligence startup, emphasized the significance of the company’s work and stressed the importance of maintaining ethical practices. Summers stated that OpenAI should function as a responsible corporation and be willing to collaborate with government officials on matters such as regulations, national security, and technology advancement. He made these remarks during an interview on Bloomberg Television’s Wall Street Week with David Westin.
The remarks shed light on what Summers, a former US Treasury secretary, plans to do with the Silicon Valley startup.
Summers officially joined OpenAI’s board this week, not long after the company descended into a chaotic leadership battle that mowed down Silicon Valley. On November 17, the company’s board fired CEO Sam Altman, but days later reached an agreement on his reinstatement. Most of the board that Altman fired have resigned and been replaced by new executives, including Summers and former Salesforce Inc. CEO Bret Taylor.
Asked if he had a plan for how to safely manage the business, Summers said, “I’ve been on the job for two days,” noting that his hiring package would arrive this weekend.
Summers, a Harvard University professor and paid contributor to Bloomberg TV, also said he stood by a statement he made earlier this year predicting that artificial intelligence would “come into the cognitive class” and could replace some white-collar workers.
