‘Lawsuit Time’: Elon Musk sues Microsoft for ‘illegal’ use of Twitter data
Twitter CEO Elon Musk has issued a legal threat against Microsoft, accusing the company of illegally training its machine learning models using data from the microblogging site.
This comes after Microsoft refused to pay Twitter’s API fees, which provide researchers with valuable information about online conversations.
“They trained illegally using Twitter data. Court time,” Musk tweeted, highlighting the use of social media data in machine learning training.

Musk said he will pursue legal action after Microsoft announced it will no longer include Twitter in its advertising platform starting next week, TechCrunch reported.
This development follows Twitter’s decision to charge at least $42,000 per month for users of its API.
US publication Wired reported in March that the new pricing system “prices almost everything” and users began receiving emails with new pricing information soon after.
Although Microsoft has decided to remove Twitter from its advertising platform, but has not revealed any reasons for this decision.
While APIs (application programming interfaces) are essential tools for businesses and researchers, concerns about privacy and ethical implications have been raised.
It’s unclear if Musk has taken legal action against Microsoft, and Microsoft has yet to respond to the allegations.
