Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Breaks Record as Fastest-Selling PlayStation Studios Title
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released last week on October 20th to critical acclaim, with many praising the game for its visuals, story, and larger-than-life boss battles. The game has now achieved yet another milestone, becoming the fastest selling PlayStation Studios game in the first 24 hours of release.
According to Sony, the game has sold more than 2.5 million copies immediately after 24 hours of release. Notably, these sales were exclusively on the PS5 system, as the game is not multiplayer and is exclusive to the PS5 console.
In doing so, this third installment in the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise developed by Insomniac Games has beaten the previous record of God of War Ragnarok, which sold 5.1 million copies in its first week after release.
The game is a direct sequel to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man and 2020’s Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and serves as the next chapter in Peter and Miles’ story. It features antagonists – including Venom, the Lizard, Kraven the Hunter, and the Sandman.
“Insomniac Games meets incredibly high standards for delivering engaging and innovative gaming experiences,” said Eric Lempel, VP, Global Marketing, Sales and Business, Sony Interactive Entertainment.
“Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is Insomniac Games’ third installment in the PlayStation franchise. Built from the ground up to take advantage of the unique features of the PlayStation 5, the goal was to massively build on the action, story and features of the first two games,” he added.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 retails at Rs 4,999 in India and is available in both digital and physical versions.
