Max Out Your Music: Get Ready for the Apple AirPods Max 2!
US tech giant Apple released its first pair of headphones, the AirPods Max, in 2020. Although the company has yet to launch a successor, a new report suggests that Apple is planning to release a new generation model in 2024.
According to a MacRumors report, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed that Apple will introduce a new version of the AirPods Max 2 in late 2024.
The report revealed that Apple plans to update the AirPods Max with a USB-C port to replace the current Lightning port. This change complies with European regulations and brings AirPods Max in line with other Apple AirPods products.
According to Gurman, the upcoming AirPods Max 2 will include a USB-C to USB-C charging cable instead of a Lightning to USB-C cable. The company also supplies a USB-C to 3.5 mm audio extension cable that allows users to connect AirPods Max 2 to 3.5 mm audio ports.
Apple plans to introduce new color options for the second-generation AirPods Max, according to a Bloomberg report. However, the exact colors are still unknown.
Bluetooth 5.3, which is expected to be included in the upcoming AirPods Max 2, brings improvements that can improve the reliability and energy efficiency of the wireless connection. Although the Bluetooth specification includes LE Audio, it seems that Apple has yet to implement LE Audio support in its devices.
Current rumors suggest that apart from new colors, no major changes are expected for the AirPods Max 2. However, it’s worth noting that Apple’s plans may evolve ahead of the expected release in late 2024.
Apple’s U2 Ultra Wideband chip can be found in the latest iPhone 15 series, Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, and enables precise search in the Find My app. The current AirPods Max have basic support for Find My, but they don’t even have the previous generation’s U1 chip.
According to MacRumors, adding Apple’s U2 chip to the AirPods Max 2 would allow for a much more accurate way to locate the headphones when they’re nearby.
