Meta destroyed 28 million bad content on Facebook and Instagram in India
Meta removed over 28 million pieces of content across 13 Facebook policies and 12 Instagram policies in India during February 2021 under the new IT rules.
Between February 1st and February 28th, Meta served over 24.8 million pieces of content across 13 Facebook practices and 3.3 million pieces of content across 12 Instagram practices.
These include, for example, pre-defined channels for reporting content for certain violations, self-repair streams where they can download their data, ways to resolve hacked accounts, etc., Meta said in its monthly report under IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media). In February, Meta received 1,647 complaints through India’s grievance mechanism and responded to 100 percent of them.
“From these reports, we provided users with tools to solve problems in 585 cases,” Meta added.
Of the remaining 1,062 reports that required special review, Meta reviewed the content in accordance with its policies and took action on a total of 379 reports.
“The remaining 683 reports were checked but may not have been auctioned,” Meta said.
Under the new IT Rules 2021, large digital and social media platforms with more than 5 million users must publish monthly compliance reports.
Meta received 14,216 reports through India’s complaint mechanism on Instagram during the same period and responded to 100 percent of them.
“We measure the number of pieces of content (such as posts, photos, videos or comments) that we take action on because they violate our standards. Actions could include removing content from Facebook or Instagram, or masking images or videos that may be disturbing to some audiences with a warning,” Meta said.
